Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- New zoning regulations might pave the way for a new hotel in Duluth.
Zoning on property along Mall Drive is now classified as Mixed Use.
After the Duluth Planning Commission reviewed the site, located south and west of the current Texas Roadhouse, they approved the four-story, 91-room Hampton Inn and Suites.
Some city leaders say the need for more hotel space is crucial as tourism in Duluth continues to grow.
"The purpose of the MUC district is to encourage mixed development and this would help in that area of mixed development... greater opportunities for the general traveling public to visit our city," said Charles Froseth, of the Duluth Planning Division.
Planning commission members say construction on the hotel could start as early as this fall.
