Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - According to Cook County Sheriff Mark Falk, 44–year–old Kara Pavelich was found dead outside her Lutsen home after reportedly falling 20 feet from her second–story balcony that had no railing.

Sheriff Falk says he believes Pavelich was seeking better cell phone reception on the balcony when the fall occurred.

A cell phone was found lying beside her.

Pavelich was married to former Minnesota North Star Mark Pavelich, and had a stylized acrylic painting career that often accentuated the beauty of the North Shore.

Northland gallery owners say she will be sorely missed.

"I enjoy working with artists that are nice people, and I got that feeling from her... just looking at her work. She was an artist with a lot of potential for the future," said Jeff Schmidt, owner of Lizzards Art Gallery, in Duluth, that has featured some of Pavelich's work.

Two separate services are set for Saturday at her former home, in Tofte... a private ceremony at 11 a.m., that will be followed by a public reception at 2 p.m.
