Northland SIDS Foundation Holds Annual Walk
Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - The Northland SIDS Foundation held their third annual walk Saturday to help raise money for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The foundation was founded three years ago by Dana Zackowitz after her daughter died of the syndrome in 2011. This foundation is the only resource the Northland has for parents and family who have lost a child to the syndrome. Over 2,500 babies die each year from SIDS. The foundation has become a resource for families who have experienced this tragedy. "We try to provide some grief support for families who have lost children to SIDS, we have all gone through the loss of a child to SIDS so we all kind of have an idea of what that loss is like, so we like to be there for other families who are in need of some grief support," said Zackowitz. During Monday's 10 p.m. newscast, Barbara Reyelts will have a special report on the circumstances surrounding this Duluth couple's tragic loss and a look at the latest research into how to prevent SIDS deaths.
