Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- People in the Northland got to celebrate National Chocolate Day with some tasty treats Monday night as they learned about some of the benefits chocolate has to offer.

The free chocolate program at the Duluth Public Library taught those in attendance about the history of chocolate.

Chocolatier Heidi Ash says chocolate goes back as far as the Aztecs and Mayans, and that many people don't know chocolate is technically a fruit.

"The darker the chocolate the more that it could possibly, and they're still doing a lot of research, but be good to lower your blood pressure. It actually doesn't cause cavities... can be good for a lot of different things, and it does trigger the happy endorphins," said Ash.

Regular and vegan samples were given throughout the class dedicated to chocolate.
