Duluth, Minn (NNCNOW.com) -- The Northland Chapter of the Red Cross held a reception tonight honoring their volunteers.

In the last year the Red Cross has assisted 106 families dealing with disasters.

They have also given CPR and first aid training to 3,800 people and trained another 1,700 people to be better prepared for disasters.

Red Cross officials also presented an award to the Northland's News Center.

"The Northland's Newscenter was honored by the Northland Chapter of the Red Cross for it's commitment to the red cross and always helping us when there is a story to be told or an event to be covered," said Penny Dieryck, board chair for the Northland chapter.

Volunteers with the Northland chapter were honored not only for their commitment to this community but communities across the nation.
