Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)--- The Minnesota State Patrol has released the final numbers in the massive pile up that happened Thursday on I 35 in Duluth.
A Minnesota State Trooper initially responded to a two car crash on the highway near the tunnels by Lake Avenue.
While on that call, a vehicle rear ended the trooper's car, causing the trooper to climb up on the barrier wall to avoid being struck.
This caused a chain reaction which eventually led to thirty two vehicles being involved in the accident.
Sixteen cars were towed from the scene.
Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A fourth went to the hospital later in the day.
Parts of the highway were closed for more than two hours during cleanup.
Authorities say icy road conditions were to blame for the pileup.
