Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)--- The city of Superior is in desperate need of more housing for seniors...but a new housing development in the works is part of the solution to the growing problem.

City officials broke ground today on "Grand Central Plaza", a five and half million dollar, 50-unit senior housing development located on the 1300 block of Weeks Avenue.

The facility will include 44 income based housing units for seniors, as well as six market rate units.

The apartment community will have a movie theatre, exercise room, community room, and business center among other amenities.

The waiting list for housing in Superior has well over two hundred people on it.

Mayor Bruce Hagen says senior housing, and housing in general is in high demand in Superior

"I have to believe, and I have to say it's probably the primary issue in our community. We have no trouble finding quality jobs coming to town. We have great trouble having people live here," said Mayor Bruce Hagen.

Construction is expected to start soon on Grand Central Plaza.

Tenants should be able to move in in May of 2015.
