Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- A proposed housing project in Lincoln Park is one of many steps being taken to revitalize the neighborhood.
The Housing and Redevelopment Authorities is planning to reuse the old Lincoln Park Elementary School for low income housing.
Plans call for 50 units as well as a space that nonprofit organizations can lease.
The HRA is calling for tax increment financing to redevelop the building.
HRA Director, Rick Ball, said it's a new lease on life for a building that was once on the brink of demolition.
"This will be a very positive use for the building; also we have a really strong need for affordable housing in the community right now," Ball said.
If the plan is passed at Monday's City Council meeting, construction could begin as early as June.
