Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Armory Arts and Music Center hosted a blacksmithing class in their parking lot Saturday.

The class was taught by members of Forging Community, which is a group of local blacksmiths.

Those who bared the chilly weather learned basic blacksmithing skills and walked away with a handmade artifact at the end of the day.

The class was a Fundraiser for the Armory Arts and Music Center.

Instructors at the event say it's a great way to spread the craft of blacksmithing.

"We're all about opening up the craft and the art to everybody," said instructor Paul Webster, "You know, forging isn't for everybody, but it's for anybody. If you're young, if you're old, you can come down and try it out."

Forging Community is currently in the process of forming a non–profit organization, which will focus on educating the general public about the art and craft of metalsmithing.
