Overall MN property taxes to drop in 2014, budget officials say

February 28, 2014 Updated Feb 28, 2014 at 9:12 PM CDT

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) - On the heels of the surplus news Friday, Minnesota budget officials announced taxes paid by property owners dropped for the first time in 12 years.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue said today property taxes decreased eight million dollars between 2013 and 2014

The drop is thanks to a difference in property tax levies and property tax refunds and credits.

The Revenue's department's analysis showed Local Government's actually increased property taxes by $125 million, but those direct refunds and credits resulted in an overall reduction.
