Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Pakistani student facing deportation while recovering from a brain injury in the hospital will be able to stay in the U.S. longer.
Muhammad Shahzaib Bajwa, a 22-year-old UWS student will be able to receive medical care beyond the date his student visa expires, on February 28.
Bajwa's brother says the Pakistani Consulate in Chicago and the State Department have given him "verbal assurances" his brother will not be deported.
However, the hospital will stop paying his medical expenses on February 28.
As of today, more than $116,000 has been raised online, but $300,000 is needed to cover the cost of care.
He remains in a comatose at Essentia Health St. Mary's hospital, 3 months after a vehicle-deer collision.
