Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - If you were by the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth Saturday morning, you may have noticed what appeared to be packs of animals running wild throughout the grounds.
It's an easy mistake to make if you didn't know that today was the annual "Run Like an Animal" 5K run.
The event is a collaborative effort between the zoo and Tortoise and Hare Footwear, in West Duluth, with the proceeds benefiting the zoo.
Tortoise and Hare co–owner Jim Stukel says, while your favorite animal costumes are highly encouraged, they aren't required, nor is the competitive spirit that typically comes with a 5K.
"First of all it's not a race, it's a run, and it's here for fun, and it's here to raise money for the zoo," smiled Stukel as costumed racers ran behind him. "It's nothing more than that, and we just had a great idea to start with."
For the competitive ones, top racers received cash awards of 50 to 100 dollars.
