Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Monday the Duluth city council approved a resolution to accept a grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for the construction of Phase II of the Cross City Trail.

The proposed trail would run from Canal Park and end at the Munger trail near the Lake Superior Zoo.

With this grant from the DNR, in the amount of $288,000, the city's funding responsibility is reduced to $96,000.

However, even with the grant, changes can still be made to the trail as the project continues.

"I feel really comfortable knowing that we have some time yet to do the tweaking that we need to do. I'm hopeful that we can come up with something that works for as many of our constituents and as many of our users as possible," said Duluth city councilor Emily Larson.

Councilors say they will have a committee of the whole meeting in the coming weeks to discuss concerns about the trail in detail.
