Phone scam ringing in Blackduck, MN

March 20, 2014 Updated Mar 20, 2014 at 1:18 PM CST

Blackduck, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Blackduck Police Department is warning everyone of a phone scam regarding electric service billing.

Police say a man with a foreign accent contacted a Blackduck woman and told her that unless her electric bill was paid in full within 30 minutes, her electric service would be disconnected.

The man said he was with North Itasca Electric. He also gave a return phone number which was a cell phone from Barnum, Minn.

This is a scam in which suspects are seeking credit card or bank account information. The Blackduck Police Department urges residents to never give personal information over the phone to an unsolicited caller.

Residents are supposed to contact their electric service provider if they have any questions.
