Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The pilot of the Lark of Duluth replica aircraft was not injured after he had to conduct a hard landing on the harbor side of the Sky Harbor Airport in Duluth.
Authorities responded to the report of a plane crash on the water around 11:30 Tuesday morning. Officials on the scene say theLark of Duluth replica aircraft was testing out an experimental airframe, however while attempting the land, the plane came in too fast and crash landed on the water.
The lone pilot of the aircraft, Mark Marino, was able to get out of the plane and was picked up by a chase boat close by. Marino did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
Authorities say there was a slight delay in responding due to the Aerial Lift Bridge being in the up position.
Officials say the replica aircraft sustained substantial damage in the crash. The aircraft's fuel system was not compromised and there was no fuel leaked into the harbor.
The Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating this incident.
