Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A St. Louis County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle early Thursday morning after a gas drive off from the Holiday Station in Pike Lake, but the driver took off.

Authorities pursued the vehicle and eventually used a road stop technique at the intersection of County Road and Swan Lake Road to bring the vehicle to a halt near the Alborn area.

It was then authorities say they found the vehicle had been reported stolen from Superior on Aug. 10, and the plates had been stolen overnight from a Duluth car.

54–year–old Rory Schmidt from Meadowlands, who has a lengthy criminal record, has been arrested.

Charges in this case are pending. Also worth mentioning, Schmidt faces a jury trial on Sept. 2, 2014 in regards to theft of a different motor vehicle charge which was filed in 2013.
