UPDATE: Thousands affected by power outages

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Winds gusting up to nearly 60 miles per hour Monday are causing downed trees and widespread power outages.

More than 3,600 Minnesota Power Customers remain without power as of 5:00 p.m.

Crews continue to clear debris and repair downed lines across the region.

A majority of the work is being done in Duluth's Congdon, Chester and East Hillside neighborhoods.

This photo, taken on 13th Ave. East in Duluth, shows a tree that took down several power lines due to high winds.

About 1,600 Lake Country Power Co-op members also remain without power as crew works to repair 44 outages.

The outages are happening near Lake Vermilion, Cook, Frazer Bay, Ely and Cotton, Keewatin, Cromwell, and Leech Lake.
