Proposed Bill would Fund Multi-Modal Transit Center

St. Paul, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - A bill to fund a Multi-Modal Transit Center in Duluth was heard today in the House Transportation Policy and Finance Committee.

Representative Kerry Gauthier's bill appropriates $6M in bonding to the Duluth Transit Authority to design, construct, furnish, and equip a transit center.

The center will link local bus service with intercity bus service, taxi and car rentals, pedestrian and bike trails and eventually the Northern Lights Express train service from Duluth to Minneapolis

The project leverages $16M in federal funding and $4M in local funds.
Gauthier's bill was laid over for possible inclusion in the state bonding bill.

The Senate bill is sponsored by Senator Roger Reinert.
