Lawmakers Act To Stop Elder Abuse

February 8, 2012 Updated Feb 8, 2012 at 2:09 PM CDT

Washington D.C. (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Stories of elder abuse have been creeping their way into the headlines, but lawmakers are starting to push back.

Senator Al Franken has introduced the "Elder Protection and Abuse Prevention Act," a bill that would create a network of elder abuse screening and support programs to help stop abuse before it happens.

The bill would require the development of elder abuse screening practices and create the National Adult Protective Services Resource Center.

It would also incorporate abuse prevention training, screening, and reporting into senior service programs that received federal funding.
