Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - KBJR 6 & Range 11 / KDLH 3 and Cirrus Aircraft, both of Duluth, are partnering with the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross to host a Disaster Relief Fund Telethon in light of the recent Oklahoma tornadoes this week that left several dead and thousands homeless.

The telethon will air on KDLH Channel 3 and KBJR Channel 6 between 5 pm and 7 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. The event will be held at Cirrus Aircraft, with volunteers from the Red Cross and Cirrus answering phones.

To make a gift, call 218-788-3700 or 888-995-9345.

“The Red Cross will work through the Memorial Day weekend to distribute truckloads of relief supplies in Oklahoma, while also providing food, comfort and shelter to those affected by the devastating tornadoes of earlier this week,” said Red Cross Executive Director Judy Hanne Gonzalez. In addition to relief supplies, Red Cross nurses and mental health workers are helping victims respond and recover from the disaster.

KBJR 6 & Range 11 / KDLH 3 personalities Barbara Reyelts, Kevin Jacobsen, and Adam Clark will be on hand to cover the event, and talk with Gonzalez and Red Cross responders about how the Northland is responding to this emergency and how people here can better prepare for tornadoes.

“We are very honored to be teaming up with Northland News Center and the Red Cross for this critically important effort”, said Bill King, VP of Business Administration of Cirrus Aircraft. “So many people have been severely impacted by these storms. We are proud to become part of the solution by providing this opportunity for all of us in the Northland to come along side our neighbors to our South and reach out our collective hands to make a huge difference! We hope everyone will join us in contributing whatever you can to this important effort.”

The Northland Chapter responds to about 100 local disasters annually. Red Cross disaster relief includes emergency housing, food, clothing, medicine and medical supplies, eyeglasses, health services, and disaster counseling. Financial relief is typically used by clients at local businesses, thus pumping up to $100,000 in charitable contributions back into the communities we serve.

The Red Cross depends on the generous support of the American public to assist people affected by disasters.
