Rip currents make for dangerous swimming in Duluth

June 19, 2014 Updated Jun 19, 2014 at 11:56 AM CDT

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Duluth Fire Department is warning people not to swim at any Lake Superior beaches Thursday, into Friday morning.

Strong winds and waves are creating a high risk of rip currents which are life–threatening to anyone in the water – even experienced swimmers. Authorities have issued a red flag warning which will be lifted at 10 a.m. on Friday depending on the winds.

A red flag warning is a recommendation, meaning the city is not responsible for any injury/death caused from swimming at a public beach that has been declared a red flagged beach.
