Road Work Hits the Superior Stage
Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - "The Big Dig," a new play based loosely on the Tower Avenue reconstruction project will open this week in Superior. The play offers a fictional account of a major surprise workers find when they tear up the Avenue. That surprise is a body buried among the old pipes under Tower Avenue, unraveling a mystery that began back in 1921. Written by local playwright, Teddie Meronek, the idea is to make it more fun for Superior residents and businesses dealing with the summer-long downtown major road-work project. "It reminds me of a Nancy Drew Story. I pulled out my old Nancy Dress books and read a couple of them and a lot of excitement. I like working with high school and Middle School Student," said Kathy Laakso, the play's director. The play opens Thursday evening at the Douglas County Historical Society Building and runs through Saturday, each night beginning at 7:30. p.m. There is also a Sunday matinee beginning at 2 p.m.
