Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - It was a beautiful day in Duluth, along the shores of Lake Superior; the kind of day that's perfect for plenty of sand, and a little friendly competition.

Thursday was the annual Park Point sand modeling contest, which brought teams and day campers in from across the city to build the best sand creation.

There were plenty of categories to take home the gold in, including biggest sculpture, and best use of natural beach materials.

Noelle Vesel was part of a team that designed a mama and baby turtle sand sculpture, and won most creative sculpture. She says she brought some items to color the sculpture.

The day–long event also featured a water safety expo, and other beach–friendly forms of entertainment.
