Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com)--- It's a shoppers delight..thousands of deals at department stores to kick off the holiday spending season.

Retailers and shoppers alike bask in the glory of Black Friday

It's the biggest shopping day of the year

"We prepare all week to make sure this is the best holiday season we can have," said Roger Irwin, Connectivity Sales Manager at Best Buy.

According to the National Retail Federation, nearly 150 million people will shop Black Friday, in hopes of scoring some big deals. At Best Buy, people camped out in the cold to get their hands on the hottest items.

"There was a couple of ice houses that were right outside our door. They had heaters going and they were staying the night, they wanted to get some of the best deals we had," said Irwin.

The National Retail Federation reports more than eleven billion dollars was spent last year on Black Friday. Shoppers swarm to save money on computers, tvs, cameras and cell phones.

"We're looking for a family plan, so we buy four phones and we want find what phone is obviously free," said Ann Bovold, a Black Friday shopper.

Shopper Grace Birdseye spent Thursday night shopping and waiting in line, and was back at it Friday morning.

"We were supposed to be up at 5:30 and be here by six, well we got up at six and were here by 6:15, and now it it's 7:30 and we don't have a lot of energy," said Birdseye.

All in hopes of getting what she wants this holiday season.

"I'm looking for shoes and clothes," said Birdseye.

But Black Friday started a little earlier this year.. at least at the Miller Hill Mall when doors opened at 8 Thursday night.

"Miller Hill Mall responses to what our customers want and our customers clearly voted last evening and they said we like the earlier start to Black Friday," said Machelle Kendrick, Marketing Director for the Miller Hill Mall.

Proving that many dedicated shoppers traded in their Thanksgiving family traditions for a bargain.

"This year looked remarkably better than what I remember from Black Friday last year," said Kendrick.

If you missed out on the Black Friday deals- cyber Monday is just around the corner where you can score big deals from the comfort of your own home.
