Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Ever wonder what your soul looks like?

Well Friday night Northlanders got the chance to paint portraits of just that... their souls.

Duluth's Art Institute's soul portrait painting workshop captures the interior space of a portrait.

Methods of traditional portraiture and abstraction are used to create emotional expression and depth.

The workshop has been ongoing for the past five years.

"What we really want to do is get into the knitty gritty, and the soul of a portrait and like who the person is on the inside rather than just the surface on the outside. And that's really where successful portrait comes into play is who they are as a person rather than just their outsides," said Shannon Cousino education director for DAI.

The workshop will continue throughout Saturday.
