Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- This spring, the Fond du Lac Band will be authorizing spearfishing for Band members on a number of lakes in northern Minnesota.
The Band’s Resource Management Division staff says they have based the decision off years’ worth of studies that identify the lakes where spear fishing can be exercised without harming the fishery resource.
On the Band’s website, Treasurer Ferdinand Martineau says the band will be cautious about regulating spear fishing during the inaugural season.
He adds their data collection gives the Reservation Business Committee confidence that spear fishing will not harm the resource.
Final identification of harvest lakes, and levels, will be done after the Band consults with the DNR.
