Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Bikers strapped on their gear to ride down the first lift–access mountain bike trail at Spirit Mountain.

The sunny weather attracted thrill seekers to ride the mile and a half long trails named Candy Land and Smorgasbord.

Local and national bicycling groups along with Spirit Mountain helped fund the $50,000 trails.

Regional Director of the International Mountain Biking Association, Hansi Johnson, says the impact of the trails will be beneficial to the Northland.

"This is a unique trail in the region, there's really only maybe two other spots in the upper Midwest that have any sort of gravity riding and this is the only other spot that has lift service gravity riding," said Johnson.

Spirit Mountain will continue the grand opening celebrations with a ribbon cutting event on Friday at 1 pm.
