Statue of WWII Hero and Tuskegee Airman in New Home
Duluth, MN (NNC NOW) - A $50,000 statue of World War II Veteran and Tuskegee Airman, Joe Gomer, was carefully moved into its new, permanent location in the brand new Duluth Airport terminal.
The idea for the statue came from discussions by Northland Veterans Service Committee Chair Durbin Keeney, who realized there was nothing in the city to honor Gomer's legacy.
Keeney says the new statue and location will go above and beyond its mission to honor.
"It will be in a place of prominence, and it will be permanently here. It will be a prominent tribute to Joe—and not only him as a Tuskegee Airmen, but personally, in the life he's lived ever since then," said Keeney.
A combination of area businesses, like Best Buy, and individual, private donations funded the$50,000 project to build the statue.
