Students Seek Redemption after 'Spur of the Moment Adventure'
Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - University of Wisconsin Superior Sophomores Cody Chaffee and Brittney Kemi are taking charge of their college careers. Cody is running for student body president. "Our platform is kind of based on student pride and student retention here at UWS," Chaffee said. Brittney is shaping young minds. "Over the course of the semester, I'll spend 70 hours working one on one with different students," Kemi said. They are two outstanding students who are working hard to clean up their image following a slight run in with the law last February. "A door happened to be open at Superior High School and we went in," recalled Chaffee. "We ended up setting off an alarm and we were nervous and took off." "We didn't know it was a big deal until a few months later when it surfaced on the news and online," recalled Kemi. Superior Police shared the images with the media in hopes of finding the prowling pair. Cody and Brittney eventually turned themselves in and were cited for trespassing. "We had no malicious intent at all," said Chaffee. "We weren't there to vandalize or steal anything." They admit their spur of the moment adventure was a mistake. That mistake didn't just cost them in fines, but missed opportunities as well. "It doesn't look good to a lot of people in professional settings that you see on a daily basis," said Chaffee. "I've learned never to take things for granted and keep a positive image for people, you definitely learn from experiences," said Kemi. Both say they've been given second chances. Cody is also a captain on the Mock Trial team. Brittney is a campus ambassador and a resident assistant in the dorms. Kevin Jacobsen Bio - Facebook - Twitter - E-Mail
