DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Super One has been taking over liquor stores in an effort to keep customers at their existing grocery stores in Minnesota.

Super One first took over Lumberjack Liquors next to their store in Cloquet.

After its success, the company went on to buy Liberty Liquor in Spirit Valley in March.

One manager says having a Super One Liquor next door helps keep customers from driving to Wisconsin, where alcohol tax is lower and liquor is sold legally in grocery stores.

She says so far the concept is paying off, even though half of the store is still under construction.

"Business has been great. We'd had to hire more staff. We've already outgrown the space we have and people are very excited about it and can't wait for it to be done," said Tanya Rabold, the Super One Liquor manager.

The manager says sales have increased in the liquor store and Super One will likely expand with more liquor stores.
