Superior City Council Tables Animal Shelter Proposal

October 3, 2012 Updated Oct 3, 2012 at 12:38 AM CDT

Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - A Superior city council vote to decrease the size of a proposed county–wide animal shelter has been tabled to allow more time for talks.

Under the original plan The Humane Society of Douglas County and the Animal Rescue Federation, which are two separate shelters, planned to merge with Animal Allies Humane Society.

Animal Allies Humane Society agreed to operate the new facility.

But last week, it was announced the City of Superior would cut funding for the project by $700,000, reducing the size of the proposed shelter and limiting services for animals within the city.

After comments from city and county officials last night, the Council held off on a vote in hopes of everyone coming back to the table.

The issue will be brought before city council members again next week.
