Bayfield County, WI (NNCNOW.com) -- Authorities have charged a suspect with intentional homicide in connection with the death of an Iron River couple.
44 year old James Edbert Crain Jr. is charged with two counts First Degree Intentional Homicide, two counts of Battery of a Peace Officer and one count of Failure to Comply with Officer's Attempt to Take Person into Custody.
In the criminal complaint, the Bayfield County Sheriff's office received a call on December 7th around 6 p.m. from Eunice Crain that she and her husband were being beaten by their son and asked for help.
Officers say they had to open the door by force to the couple's apartment when they arrived at the scene around 6:20pm.
When authorities entered the apartment, they found two bodies with towels over their heads lying on the floor of the dining area in a pool of blood.
They were later identified as that of Eunice Crain and James Crain Sr.
Officers say they found Crain Jr. sitting on the toilet in the bathroom with a butcher knife covered in blood next to him.
Deputies say Crain also had open wounds on his neck and wrists that appeared to be self-inflicted.
Authorities say Crain then began to seize and fell off the toilet.
When he regained consciousness, Crain allegedly lunged for the butcher knife.
A struggle ensued between Crain and two deputies before he was taken into custody.
The bodies of the victims were examined by the Bayfield County Assistant Coroner who determined that Mr. and Mrs. Crain died from blunt force trauma and loss of blood from being stabbed.
