Ashland, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Ashland Post Office closed for three hours on Thursday after a suspicious package was found in the lobby.

Captain Jim Gregoire, of the Ashland Police Department, was called to the scene.

Gregoire said that the case was turned over to the post office since it is a federal building and the post master would be investigating.

Post Master Mark Thimm, said he closed the post office to do a proper investigation.

The package was deemed safe when they found the postage, which was on the bottom of the package instead of the top.

Thimm says in these situations, it is better to proceed on the side of caution.
