DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Governor Mark Dayton was in Duluth today to congratulate three Northland cities and one Northland company that achieved Yellow Ribbon status.

Yellow Ribbon status is given to cities and employers that have gone above and beyond to help service members and their families.

Grand Rapids, Hibbing/Chisholm and Pine City earned the designation as well as Cliff's Natural Resources.

Besides helping families during deployment, these entities have held awareness events, fundraisers, "Adopt a Family" programs and help soldiers return to citizen life when their deployment ends.

"People disperse back and go back to their lives, including spouses that have to go back to work and kids that go back to schools and the adjustment for many is just enormous," said Governor Dayton.

The City of Duluth, which hosted the event, gained Yellow Ribbon status in September of 2010.
