Two Harbors, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Authorities are investigating what caused a train to derail just south of Two Harbors, Minn. Thursday afternoon.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office, along with Two Harbors Police, the Minnesota DNR and rescue squads were called to the incident around 1:15 pm.
The 107 car CN train that was carrying iron ore pellets derailed next to the lumber yard and the CN train yard. Between 20-50 cars are mangled on the track.
Two crew members were hurt and were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Two other crew members on the train were not hurt.
Patrick Waldron the CN Regional Public Relations Director spoke with the Northland's NewsCenter this afternoon saying they have not received an update on the conditions of the crew members that were hurt.
The incident is being investigated by the CN Railroad Police Officers and the Federal Railroad Administration.
Waldron said he was unsure if the National Transportation Safety Administration would send investigators to the scene.
Authorities continue to clean up the incident.
