Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - With the re–opening of the NorShor Theater, the addition of the Zeitgeist Arts Cafe, and numerous art galleries popping up around the Twin Ports... it's hard to deny we have a thriving arts community.

"It's a rare opportunity that a community comes together behind the arts the way it has," said Bill Payne, Dean of the School of Fine Arts at UMD.

One group is making sure this continues to happen.

"TwinPorts Arts Align is a collection of arts administrators and artists from both cities Duluth and Superior that have been meeting together for the past year to talk about the arts in our area and how we can work together and collaborate to make the arts community a stronger place," said Crystal Pelkey, Twin Ports Arts Align Co-Chair.

The group came together with a little help from UMD's College of Fine Arts.

"I wanted to bring together the arts community to have a conversation so that we could be a true community in terms of looking out and advocating for our needs and to really take advantage of this opportunity," said Payne.

Members say the Twin Ports community offers numerous opportunities, especially with the re–opening of a Duluth landmark.

"The Norshor becomes this anchor a real center for large event programming," said Payne.

Organizers hope the group's efforts will connect artists to come together for a common goal.

"We are living in such a powerful strong community in the arts, and there is so much going on for a community of our size so we really want people to get out and experience that and appreciate the community that we are living in," said Pelkey.

Wednesday morning at 10, Twin Ports Arts align will unveil a major project the group has been working on for the past year that will tie together several existing and new arts events in the Twin Ports.
