DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Thursday's annual Thanksgiving Feast in the Twin Ports could serve a record number of people.

A third location has been added to spread the love.

If Thanksgiving had elves, the thousand volunteers for this massive feast would be them.

"Peeling potatoes getting the vegetables ready, really doing that pre-prep," said Roz Randorf, the Sr. Chair for the Buffet.

"I always smile when I say this because we're so blessed with the volunteers coming in every year and helping us," said Jack Teske, one of the founders of the dinner.

The volunteers provide the foundation to put together about five thousand meals between the DECC feast, two satellite locations, and home delivers, which have gone up this year.

"This year we have 1,300 home delivered meals. Last year, it was a thousand," said Randorf.

More requests for home delivered meals along with a new satellite location could mean bigger numbers.

"The expansion is based on the flooding situation that this June, where a lot of people on that area really suffered devastating losses," said Teske.

While the feast continues to grow, it wasn't always a large event.

"It started 23 years ago in a restaurant in Superior and the restaurant owners wanted to give back to the community," said Teske.

"We are such a beautiful, such a great community that it really shows you that if we put our mind to something we can come together and we can have no one alone or hungry on a really important holiday," said Randorf.

The concept is to welcome anyone.

"Come on to the DECC we're all here. Come celebrate with us," said Randorf.

The potatoes, onions, squash and other parts of the meal come straight from local farmers.

The dinner runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DECC and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the satellite locations in Carlton at the Street Car Restaurant and in Cloquet at Zion Church.
