Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Two Duluth men have been charged in connection with an armed robbery that occurred last week in Duluth.

23 year old Anthony Prout and 19 year old Alexander Duncan have been formally charged with Attempted Aggravated Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery.

Police were called to the 2800 Block of West 2nd Street on Friday around one in the morning on the report of an armed robbery.

An initial investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly approached a 32 year old man and asked him for a cigarette and spare change.

When the victim said he did not have either, one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him and said he “must have some spare change for charity.”

The second suspect then allegedly stated “then we should just steal his truck.”

The victim was able to get away from the suspects and went into his house and called 911.

Duluth Police were able to locate the two suspects a few minutes later in the 2800 Block of West #3 alley. The victim was able to identify the two suspects as Prout and Duncan.

During the arrest, officers noted that Prout and the handgun he had matched the description from an armed robbery that occurred a week earlier at the intersection of 24th Avenue West and 5th Street.

During that incident, police say one suspect had a gun in his hand while he was asking the victim if he had any money. When the victim opened his wallet to show that he had none, the suspect allegedly took a couple of cigarettes and left.

At that time, officers were unable to locate the suspect.

The Duluth Police Violent Crimes Investigators interviewed Anthony Prout at the Saint Louis County Jail and say that he admitted to the previous robbery. The victim of that robbery was also able to identify Prout as the suspect.

Additional formal charges of Aggravated Robbery for the February 8th incident are being requested on Anthony Prout.
