Hibbing, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Falling asleep behind the wheel could've ended much worse for those involved in a two–car crash in St. Louis County Saturday evening.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's office responded to the crash near the intersection of Highway 169 and Rainey Road in Hibbing just before seven Saturday night.

Both 74–year–old Russell Impila, of Nashwauk, and 20–year–old Jake Lelonek, of Grand Rapids, were traveling westbound on 169.

Authorities say Lelonek fell asleep behind the wheel of his Mitsubishi Lancer, causing him to lose control and rear–end Impila's 2004 Mercedes Monterey.

Both vehicles were towed, and Lelonek's airbag was deployed, though he suffered no apparent injuries. Impila was transported to Fairview Hospital for minor injuries.

No alcohol was detected in either driver, and both were wearing seatbelts.
