Leech Lake, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Two people are dead following a head–on car crash in Cass County Saturday night.

The accident occurred just after 11 at night in Leech Lake.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 47–year–old Lisa Collins of Cass Lake was driving a 2003 Kia Spectra Southbound on County Road 75. 46–year–old Timothy Collins was a passenger.

Meanwhile, a 1999 Chevy Tahoe driven by 27–year–old Michael Stangel, of Cass Lake, was driving northbound with 47–year–old Stacey Stangel.

The Tahoe swerved into the southbound lane, which forced another vehicle off the road before it struck the Spectra head–on. The impact forced the car to travel 100 feet before resting in a ditch, facing the wrong way.

The occupants of the SUV were taken to Essentia Health–Fargo for serious injuries. Both Lisa and Timothy Collins were killed.

The State Patrol says alcohol was detected in Michael Stangel.

No one in either car was wearing a seatbelt.
