Bayfield, WI (NNCNOW.com) - Two people were rescued by the Coast Guard early Sunday morning after their sailboat ran aground near Oak Island, Wisconsin, in the Apostle Islands.

The Ninth District Coast Guard responded to a VHF distress call on channel 16 around two this morning.

The vessel's captain reported their anchor had dragged, and that they had drifted aground and were stranded.

A 45–foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Bayfield was called to the scene, and flares needed to be used by the stranded crew to locate them in the fog.

Two passengers, whose names aren't being released, were rescued from the boat, while the 38–foot sailboat was left to be salvaged later Sunday.

No injuries or pollution were reported from the incident.
