Superior, Wis. (NNCNOW.com) -- The University of Wisconsin Superior held the first campus celebration of scholarship.

The celebration highlighted the work of more than 70 scholars from 15 departments.

The gathering was an opportunity for faculty and undergraduate students to showcase various research projects they are working on.

UW–Superior Provost says displaying the work is important because the research can improve teaching.

The display can also give the community a better understanding about how their research can affect them.

"Any opportunity that we have to be able to get out into the community and interact with either our alum or individuals who are interested in the applied aspect of undergraduate research and the benefit that gives to the students so they are able to really become successful in their chosen career or chosen field," said Provost Faith Hensrude.

UW–Superior officials say they want to make this celebration an annual event.
