Cloquet, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Earlier today, the United Way of Carlton County announced a $20,000 donation to the Regional Flood Fund, which goes to rebuilding homes and meeting other unmet needs not covered by state and federal dollars.

So far the fund has distributed more than $760,000 to more than 380 families, 430,000 of which was distributed in Carlton County alone.

Executive Director Dorine Houck says 178 homes lost more than 50 percent of their value in the county, and repairs are needed more than ever.

She calls donations an opportunity for other businesses to take the donation challenge, "and maybe they can step up to the plate and match us, or even just step up with us and be alongside us," said Houck.

This latest donation will be matched by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, bringing it to $40,000.

Any donations that come in now through the end of October will also be matched dollar for dollar.
