VIRGINIA, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---The Virginia Regional Medical Center, city and Essentia Health officials continue to discuss what a merger between the two entities might look like.
Officials continue to meet on a joint basis to review the Memorandum of Understanding written by the hospital steering commission in December.
Essentia Health Virginia is the working name for the proposed affiliation.
VRMC and Essentia officials plan to meet twice each month to continue discussions.
The next joint meetings for the city council and VRMC commission will be on Feb. 6 and 21.
CFO Steve Feltman says the model created is sustainable and will generate profit by its third year.
"Once we start seeing physician growth and expansion of services and additional generation of revenue it does work," Feltman said. "So in years two, three, four and five it does begin to look economically, very strong."
By the end of February, Feltman expects to hear discussion or see drafts of a lease agreement for the city owned hospital.
