Virginia City Council Appoints New Mayor

Virginia, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The Virginia City Council has appointed a successor to Mayor Steve Peterson.

During a meeting Tuesday night, the city voted to appoint current city council member Louis Russo to serve as Mayor through the next general election, in accordance with the city's charter.

Peterson stepped down as Mayor in September leaving the seat vacant.

City Councilor Carl Barnazelli will be appointed to take Russo's spot on the council.

Russo will be sworn in as Mayor on November 27th.
