Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The United Way of Greater Duluth is teaming up with True North AmeriCorps to bring able, willing volunteers to the front lines of Northland after school programs.
The Reader, Tutor, Mentor Program launches this month, with the help of non–profit after school programs.
The organizations are recruiting volunteers for a four month minimum time frame to work with pre–K to 12th graders in areas of reading, math, and career exploration.
Volunteers will receive training, and be placed at one of eight partner agencies in Duluth.
"It's so important," said community services director Lynette Swanberg, "and, we found that if a child reads at a third grade level by third grade, they are more likely to graduate from high school. So, it's extremely important."
