Superior, WI (NNCNOW.COM)---Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is ramping up efforts to keep the hunting tradition alive by making the sport easier for first time hunters.

A First-Time Hunter's License is available for new hunters at a discounted rate through the DNR.

And this year, 43,000 acres of private land is now open to the public under the Voluntary Public Access Program.

That's up from 29,000 acres last year.

VPA land is open to the public and hunters can use the land without permission from the land owner.

The DNR is ramping up social media to connect with seasoned and new hunters during the hunting season.

People can take part in online chats, a new wildlife-focused blog, special facebook posts and photo contest as well as a "tweet along" with DNR conservation wardens.
