Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter ) - According to Senator Bob Jauch, the new senate committee heard testimonies from the Corps of Engineers and the DNR, earlier today, which have revealed there is no way to determine how long the mining review process will take.

The hearings come after lawmakers failed to reform mining laws earlier this year, and Gogebic Taconite pulled their plans for a proposed iron ore mine on the Penokee Range, near Mellen Wisconsin.

Jauch says one main goal of the hearings is to inform the public on the environmental complexities that come with mining.

Another is to ensure that tribal representatives, labor parties, and environmental groups get a fair say in the process.

Another hearing is scheduled for this Thursday, in Madison.
