Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The St. Louis County Attorney says a registered sex offender is accused of wrongfully obtaining public assistance by providing false information to the St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services Department.
36–year–old Odis Trehorn Jones of Duluth, a registered Wisconsin sex offender, has been charged with theft by swindle and two counts of wrongfully obtaining food and medical support.
Jones applied for public assistance March 2013 and reported he was homeless and staying with friends. He was approved for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program along with medical assistance.
The St. Louis County Attorney's Office says they received a referral in August alleging that Jones was a resident of Wisconsin while he was receiving public assistance from Minnesota. In March 2013 Jones completed a sex offender registration form showing he lived at a Superior address.
The St. Louis County Attorney concludes that because he was not living in Minnesota from March through June 2013, the defendant was not entitled to any of the $2,586 in medical assistance and $729 in food support he received.
