DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - A Northland Hero is getting his house and yard fixed-up after water damage, but project organizers are asking for the community's help to get the job done.
Ninety-two-year-old World War Two Veteran Joe Gomer ended up with yard damage after the June flood and has been dealing with damage done to a dormer in his home.
Now the Northland Veterans Services Committee along with the Home Depot and area businesses have come together to organize, fund and make donations to make the repairs possible, but volunteers are needed to do the work this weekend.
"We are looking for people to stop and say hi, keep us motivated, volunteers to help out in any number or scope of the projects from roofing to landscaping to cooking and cleaning, and we are also looking for people to come by and just tell Joe thank you," said Lyzz Wahlberg, the organizer of the project who works for Home Depot.
If you'd like to volunteer or stop by the work site, go to 3235 Hutchinson Road Friday or Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
